Monitor Varroa More Easily: OZ Armour Varroa Mite Sticky Board
The OZ Armour Varroa Mite Sticky Board is designed to help beekeepers monitor Varroa mite levels within a hive. Used beneath a suitable mesh bottom board, the sticky surface can collect mites and other debris that fall from the colony, giving beekeepers a practical way to observe what is happening inside the hive.
Available from OZ Armour, this monitoring accessory can be useful as part of a regular Varroa surveillance routine, particularly when combined with other monitoring methods and appropriate hive-management practices.
A Simple Way to Monitor the Hive
The sticky board provides a contrasting surface where mites and hive debris can be collected for observation. After installation, the board can be inspected to look for Varroa mites and assess activity over the monitoring period.
Regular monitoring can help beekeepers build a clearer picture of mite levels and identify changes that may require further investigation. A sticky board is a monitoring tool, however, and should not be treated as a standalone Varroa treatment.
Compatible Mesh Bottom Board Options
This product is available with the option of a mesh bottom board, giving beekeepers flexibility when setting up their monitoring system. The mesh allows debris and mites to fall onto the sticky surface below, where they can be examined.
The removable design also makes it practical to inspect and replace the board as part of routine hive maintenance.
Useful for Varroa Surveillance
Monitoring Varroa is an important part of responsible colony management. Sticky boards can provide useful observational information, but results should be interpreted alongside other recognised monitoring methods and the conditions of the individual colony.
If Varroa is detected at concerning levels, beekeepers should follow current Australian guidance and use an appropriate registered control method where required.
