Target Varroa with Thymol: OZ Armour Apiguard® 10-Tray Treatment

The OZ Armour Apiguard® Thymol Varroa Mite Treatment provides Australian beekeepers with a registered thymol-based option for the control of Varroa mites in beehives. Each pack contains 10 × 50 g trays, making it a convenient format for beekeepers managing multiple colonies or planning a treatment program.

Available from OZ Armour, Apiguard® contains 250 g/kg thymol and is registered with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for Varroa mite control. Always read and follow the current approved product label before use.

Thymol-Based Varroa Treatment

Apiguard® uses thymol as its active constituent. The gel is designed to release thymol within the hive, providing a treatment approach for controlling Varroa mites when used according to the approved directions.

The APVMA label specifies that the product is for animal treatment only and carries safety directions that must be followed when handling and applying the product.

10 × 50 g Trays for Convenient Treatment

Each pack contains 10 individual 50 g trays. The retailer's product information specifies a treatment program using two trays per colony, making one pack suitable for treating up to five hives under that program. The approved label should always take precedence for dosage, timing and application requirements.

The tray format makes it straightforward to handle individual applications while keeping unused trays sealed until required.

Follow Temperature and Hive Conditions

The approved label states that Apiguard® is contraindicated when the maximum daily temperature is below 15°C, when colony activity is low, or when temperatures are above 40°C. It also states that honey supers should be removed before treatment and that treatment during honey flow is not recommended because of potential tainting.

These conditions make it important to check the label and local hive conditions before applying the treatment.
